Mooyah Burgers in Billings to raise money to support families of veterans
Billings Gazette - 11/10/2018
Nov. 10--For Veterans Day, Billings' Mooyah Burgers franchise will have a couple Humvees parked in the parking lot for kids to explore and a raffle inside to raise money for the families of deployed troops.
The raffle, with tickets for $5, was a way to support the local family readiness group, a U.S. Army National Guard affiliated group that offers support to family members affected by military travel and deployment.
The idea came from Jeff Willett, a veteran and the new marketing manager for the Mooyah in Billings.
"We just wanted to do something," he said. "We wanted to do something a little bigger (than offering food discounts). We wanted it to be more of a family event."
It's an important gesture, said 1st Lt. Bill Cooper, Commander of the 190th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion.
"When we're gone it's nice to know (the families) have the support," he said.
The goal of the fundraiser is to increase awareness in the community for the local family readiness group and to help it raise the money it needs to operate.
The event will start at 11 a.m. on Sunday and run until 2 p.m. However, the Humvees and the military personnel may stay longer if they're not needed elsewhere. Local businesses donated prizes for the raffle, and organizers are hoping the event will have celebratory feel.
Willett would like to see it grow into an annual event. And he hopes to remind those who participate that veterans and their families need community support.
"It's a year-round thing," he said.
